Sherwood and Jean Hoyle of Scranton were awarded the 2017 Izaak Walton League Windbreak Award at the Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District’s (SWCD) February meeting.

Every year on behalf of the state of Iowa, the SWCD presents the Izaak Walton League Windbreak Award to a well-deserving windbreak owner. The Hoyles received the Farmstead Windbreak Award (five years or older). The Hoyles have an eight-row windbreak consisting of Colorado blue spruce, Austrian spruce, concolor fir, hackberry, amur maple and Redosier dogwood.
Persons who want to nominate a windbreak for the 2018 award can notify the Greene SWCD at 515-386-3817. The 2018 deadline is June 1.
